In Search of Solutions to Society's problems

Ella Foundation is different from traditional universities and institutes, which customarily work on basic scientific disciplines with little relation to field applicability.  Our motto is to bridge this apparent gap and initiate both basic and applied research programmes based on societal problems, rather than trying to suit the research area to practical applications.  Ella Foundation runs on the concept of innovation in academic-like setting but dedicated to solving the problems of the society and driven by passion in scientific endeavour.  With this unique mandate and vision, Ella Foundation has been able to deliver within the short span of ten years.

The various areas currently under investigation include novel adjuvant technologies, vaccines for staphylococcus, polio, bluetongue and salmonellosis, and understanding the interaction of chikungunya and human cytomegaloviruses with host cells as well as molecules like human growth hormone, parathormone and interferons.  As can be seen, all the work is either for control and eradication of human and animal viral diseases or to understand the mechanisms of disease production.  The projects are also driven by current problems faced by society with respect to human or animal health, which not only tries to understand, control or eradicate infectious diseases, but also contributes to the section of the gross domestic product driven by agrarian sector, and generates and sustains rural economy.  The proposed work is also in line with global efforts through World Health Organization and Office Internationale des Epizooties to improve human and animal health.
